Chapter Thirteen
Hot, Hungry, Ravenous
PHOENIXâS MOUTH WAS HOT against Sofiaâs, hot and hungry, ravenous. Sofia moaned in response, a sound that rose out of her throat on its own. Phoenixâs hands were on her ass, squeezing and caressing.
Sofia thought she might just melt into the sidewalk.
Her whole body was warm now, despite the late hour. Her blood thrummed in her veins, rushing through her. Thereâd been a little of this on the dance floor, a tantalizing preview, but this was the real thing now. Phoenix was kissing her without reservation, clutching Sofia against their body.
Sofia prodded her tongue into Phoenixâs mouth, needing to get somehow closer. Phoenix let her, sucking on her tongue as it explored. Sofia licked along the metal of Phoenixâs piercings. She withdrew, sucking on one of those little rings and the lip beneath. Phoenix murmured, a noise that shivered right down Sofiaâs throat and into her chest.
Fuck, she needed Phoenix now.
This wasnât why sheâd accepted the invitation. It wasnât why sheâd come here. Sheâd sincerely just hoped to improve their professional relationship, to put the animosity behind them so they could work together for the show. But ever since the moment theyâd started dancing together in the club, Sofia had forgotten all about aerial and the show and professionalism, helpless to resist the heat of Phoenixâs gaze, the allure of their body so close to hers.
Now, Sofia had only one thought, one consuming concern: Want. She didnât care about the past. She didnât care about their arguments, their dumb fights. She didnât even care about Phoenix dancing with some random guy in the club. Not right now. Right now, with Phoenix pinned against that wall, all she cared about was them.
âLetâs go,â Phoenix rasped, dark and low.
They took Sofiaâs hand, leading her away from the club. They started to pound up the sidewalk, just barely managing to stay slower than an all-out run.
It took a minute for Sofiaâs brain to start working again. âWhere are we going?â she said.
âMy place,â Phoenix said. âItâs not far.â
They didnât look back as they spoke, but their grip tightened just a fraction.
Sofia swallowed. This was really happening. Right now. This was really about to happen.
Even as her mind reeled, she hurried to keep up, gripping Phoenixâs hand as though at any moment this impossible fantasy might dissipate and slide through her fingers.
How had it all changed so quickly? One moment, theyâd been dancing. The next, Phoenix had been with some random man and Sofia was so consumed by anger and hurt that sheâd stormed out of the club. A woman â maybe, maybe, she could have taken that. But a man. To leave her for some random man. Even now it stabbed a spike of hurt through Sofia, a spike she didnât want to examine in that moment.
Whatever Phoenixâs reasoning had been, it was behind them both now. Everything had changed. Somewhere between being mad enough to storm out of the club and pushing Phoenix up against a
